Gunnar Biniasch

I live on the beautiful island of Fuerteventura and have been foiling since 2010. I love all the foiling sports and try to mix it up as much as possible. I have been designing Foil and Foilboards for the last 10 years. I run the Northshore Surfshop on Fuerteventura.

The Freedom to launch anywhere I want and ride the waves without having to worry about the wing

How did you learn and how long did it take you to wing foil?

I taught myself. It did not take me any time to learn. I just went out and did it. I could already Foil and Windfoil at a good level so it was natural for me. I was lucky to also already have well functioning boards that made it easy.

4M wing, smallest possible Foil, 40L board with big long running waves.

What was your favorite wing surfing session?

They are all fun. I don't have favorites-

What do you want or believe will significantly improve the wing foiling gear?

More stability and more low end power. Less gimmicks and more performance.

What tips or recommendations do you have for anyone who wants to start?

Just go for it. Find someone who knows what they are doing and learn from them. If you can find a school that has someone teaching who has more than a couple of weeks experience winging, then learn with them. That way you don't need to get a big board to start with. If you have a wing, spend some time on land learning to handle it. A skateboard and an empty carpark on a windy day is amazing to learn on.

What is your biggest water sport achievement?
