Jessica Gent

I got into wingfoiling in 2019 and am now pretty addicted to this amazing sport. Living on the south coast of the UK is the perfect spot! Loving it now that I can glide on waves and wind swell chop!

Questions & Answers

What other water sports do you do and how long?

Kitesurfer (waves and foil) 8 years Windsurfer 12 years Surfer 20 but still bang average at it :) Paddle boarder 9 years Paddle and surf foil - my 2020 goal

What do you like about wing foiling?

The freedom - the lack of worry about tide and launching - the serenity - the adrenaline - the waves Sponsors I can’t add - mystic boarding Kit I can’t add Armstrong

How did you learn and how long did it take you to wing foil?

Watched my Waterman husband get out there - got jealous - got involved so learnt on a bigger foil board but same wing set up Took about three sessions to get my first glide and would say 20 hours to feel both ways felt comfortable - a 2 week trip to Barbados got me getting my first gybes

What is your favorite gear combination and why?

Armstrong wingfoil board and wing set up with 1550 front wing and the wasp 4or 5m but will take out the 6m and a 2400 front wing of it gets me out there too

What was your favorite wing surfing session?

My first proper wave ride holding on to the handle and gliding with control

What do you want or believe will significantly improve the wing foiling gear?

Portability and travel considered Lightweight so important for me personally Board size for women - something in between the mini and the large say 45/50 lt (Armstrong hint hint) Colours!!!! I’m a pink and purple person and never can get kit in those colours Somewhere to put my go pro :)

What tips or recommendations do you have for anyone who wants to start?

Unless you live cross shore ditch the SUP - go on the beach and get some sense of it then use a foil board but set it for minimal lift so acts more like a dagger board and keeps you upwind (wind is often onshore here) You will get used to the kit then and won’t build a fear for the foil

What is your biggest water sport achievement?

Learning to put my head under the water and love it at the age of 28!! Never looked back Otherwise Taking home the first place in the wave kitesurf nationals (and stoked with my 2nd and 4th places on other years)
