Questions & Answers
What other water sports do you do and how long?
Windsurfing for 20 years.
What do you like about wing foiling?
The freedom. Everything is so light and just wants to fly. I can’t wait to foil in big swell.
How did you learn and how long did it take you to wing foil?
I learned with my windsurf friends and we talk a lot after every session. I am still learning but it took me 2-3 sessions to get onto the foil. I feel lucky coz I could try on my friends’ gear of different sizes which made it a lot easier to learn and know what suits me.
What is your favorite gear combination and why?
Still using my first set of gear and I love it! I guess the more time you spend on it the more you tune into it and you can keep pushing your limits.
What was your favorite wing surfing session?
Winging with friends by Stanley beach until after sunset.
What do you want or believe will significantly improve the wing foiling gear?
I hope the wings will be lighter, more powerful, more durable and cooler designs! I hope there is a better balance for price and quality, so the gear is more accessible for everyone.
What tips or recommendations do you have for anyone who wants to start?
Have lots of fun and find a friend to learn with you.
What is your biggest water sport achievement?
Competed at the 2012 London Olympics, currently qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in windsurfing AND still loving my sport.
